Hi everyone,

Might as well call me John. I'm just trying to spread the word as much as I can so that people have a chance to prepare themselves for what is going to happen. Even if it only increases the odds a little, it's worth the effort

Hi Rob,, Hey Everyone...

I have taken the bull by the horns and started up the beginings of an Eco-Village in the mountains of central Portugal..
We will be building Moon Cocoon homes on the land that are capable of withstanding tornados and Earthquakes in excess of 6.5. on the scale.
The Eco-Village is now on the lookout for its tribe,, People with knowledge of permaculture, natural healing, Herbs, Natural power, Animal husbandry, and similar topics are on the wanted list..
If you want to get off the grid and get back into the arms of mother nature please drop me a line. The work will be hard, But the rewards are endless...
Long or short term volunteers are welcome,, As will be permanent tribe.

Link to construction of Moon Cocoon here.

Hi There,

I am Franke Schein, and yes--that is my real name.
I live north of Anchorage Alaska, a place that it probably going to witness real challenges during 2012.

Over the last few years I have networked with 12 other families here that are actively preparing for catastrophes that might affect our families, whether these event are related to 2012, earthquakes, or the omnipresent threat of another volcanic eruption.

Our group maintains close contact with each other at various times through the year. It’s not uncommon for all of to get together for a weekend out in the bush country.
Besides being a good time for all of us, it allows us to share ideas among ourselves, and plan for the future of our families security during any localized or global incident.

We have purchased 160 acres of remote uninhabited raw land, and laboriously dragged in building material in order to construct adequate shelter for all of us. Primarily the shelters consist of steel shipping containers partially buried in the ground, and surrounded with 25,000 year old peat moss, and then earth banks on three sides. We have found that the costs are much lower this way, instead of building concrete structures that might crumble under earthquake pressures or during liquefaction. Just hauling the container to our site was a tremendous job in itself. It entailed renting a bulldozer, welding skids/runner onto the bottom of each container, and dragging them up a frozen river to the area. Of course, I won’t mention the massive amount of work that it took to chop down old growth trees, dig the 4-feet holes, and then cover the container once they were set into place.

Presently we have two nurses, and one EMT in our group, as well as a diverse skill set that range from one gambit to another. Each of which brings a different level of comfort and safety to our group.

The most important element of our plans include the means to quickly get out kids out of schools, and transport our entire group into the safe area. The problem is compounded by the single fact that there is only one road system that goes near our area, and then it’s another twenty mile cross-country trek into the retreat itself.

We spend a considerable amount of time rehearsing rapid exfiltration out of the area, as well as various disaster plans, including communications, security, and all the challenges presented to us by Alaska’s terrain, weather, and other factors.

Presently we have two years worth of supplies squirreled away, and our main function this spring will be to get a well dug and capped off, and haul in enough fuel drums (to be buried) for the three generators that will backup the wind/solar/water system already in place. The batteries are freaking heavy--65Lbs each, but they are good quality batteries of the Trojan brand, and suited to our purposes exactly.

The weather here in Alaska is fickle, as one day it can drop down to -65 below zero, and the next week it’s a blazing hot +40 degrees. That makes the ice roads unstable and unusable, and creates serious transport issues. Summer and falls months it’s much easier, as we just hop into the power boats and cruise upriver--taking only about 70 minutes depending on the current.

I wish you all the best, and truly hope that your plans are the reason that you survive any global incident.

Dec 21 2011 is -366 Day

Like a NASA rocket launch, we can create a 2012 countdown. While several 2012 countdowns have been running for some time, an "official" countdown would have more gravity. I don't need to explain the power of "this time next year" and how it can translate globally. So rather than just suggesting, I am stating: Dec 21 2011 will be known as -366 day. The reference to the leap year could lessen the

Asteroids: We Aren't Prepared

NASA is looking, and does find asteroids. Unfortunately their efforts are far from comprehensive, and our planet is woefully under-prepared relative to our technical capabilities. A few months back New Scientist published what will hopefully be a wake-up call to politicians globally:The asteroid is on a collision course with Earth. It is the size of a skyscraper and it's big enough to raze a city

2012 Forum - Becoming Very International

With almost 6000 members and over 200,000 posts, 2012 forum has started to attract folk from more and more diverse parts of the planet. Here's a quick peek at how truly global the 2012 meme has become:Russian survivalist shows off his amphibious armored vehicle, purchased for "1500 $ + 20 bottles of vodka + 1 pig"A Scottish lass dreamed that she was at a "dock on top of a mountain unloading a

What if nothing happens in 2012?

This is a common question, and one that especially concerns 2012 prophets, 2012 fearmongers, and 2012 spiritual evolutionists - for they could all have egg on their face.First of all, there's a good chance something will happen, because most years somewhere in the world there is a major story. 2012 will still have legs, because proponents of the meme will say things like:that earthquake / volcano

WR 104 - Potential Space Nasty

I really like "bad astronomy" articles, but even more so when they admit they are scared. In this instance it is a binary star known as Wr 104. At a distance of 5000-8000 light years a supernova is not expected to harm us. But a Gamma Ray Burst might, especially if it is aimed straight at us!GRBs are a special type of supernova. When a very massive star explodes, the inner core collapses, forming
