I watched the film called 9 today at the cinema and thought it deserved a disscussion of its own. The film starts off on the now common theme of a post human world, you could take the obvious from this but the film goes much deeper.
A proffessor puts his soul into an incredible machine which he intended for the betterment of humanity, people in power took his invention to use for selfish purposes and through their greed for power the machine turned on them. The proffessor seeing this put his soul into 9 creatures to preserve humanity before he too died.
This film is a giant metephor which goes back to the origin of all religion in egypt. The egyptions had nine gods, but these gods were not seperate, they were all seen as components of a single god, as the nine creatures in this film are all aspects of the proffessor. You could also liken these aspects to the archetypes of our collective unconcsious as carl jung describes it.
Anyway these nine creatures spend their lives hiding from the machine untill one comes forward and they eventually have to confront it (the unconcsious mind confronting the concsious mind or ego). this film is a metaphor for the battle that is going on in the minds of everyone on the plantet.
The creatures try to destroy the machine but realise this would mean losing aspects of themselves (the creatures the machine has already absorbed). They figure out that the only way to truely beat the machine(ego) is to go back to the source. Find out what makes the machine and use it to release the aspects of the nine it has absorbed.
This really is an amazing film which touches on survival of the soul and the evolution of humanity past the ego creations of greed and power to truely realise our full potential, with reference to egypt, archetypes and pythagorian mathamatics. Its also worth noting that the symbol for the corrupt elements in power is a pyrimid with a trinity symbol.
With all this in mind its worth remembering that this is an animated film aimed at children.
Id really like to hear comments from anyone else who has seen this film.
Here is the trailer:

I think that if the message is of importance it doesn't matter if its aimed at children or not and in many ways children could be more receptive to the message of this film which is in essense the evolution of concsiousness. Films can be influential in good ways and bad but for me this one goes in the good pile. It shows the death of our old way of thinking and the transition into a new way, we all need to get closer to the source. And for me the issue of soul survival is very important, many people dont let it enter their lives but if you were 100% certain that this life was just a small part of a great evolutionary experience how would it change your goals. The pursuit of money and material distractions would seem obsurde, the real goal would be the search for deeper meaning, deeper connections and appriciation of the worlds beauty in everyone and everything. The rest of the worlds problems would then fix themselves from our mental shift. This may sound like a hippy pipedream but everyone is responsable for their own lives so all I can do is live my life in this way with these beliefs.
Im having a rant now. Im going on holiday on fri to scotland for a week in the middle of nowhere so I'll try and appriciate some of that beauty.
For all I know it is just spin, but the news this week is that the LHC couldn’t possibly cause a doomsday in 2012 – it will be shut down for repairs.
In September 2008, just 9 days after physicists first circulated protons through the 27-kilometer-long subterranean accelerator, the LHC suffered a catastrophic failure when one of [...]
