Meet Other 2012ers

This is the outline of a study performed by 3 sociologists at the University of Minnesota in 1954, a more detailed description can by found in the book ''When Prophecy Fails'' and this outline is from the book ''The Stargate Conspiracy''.
Before you read this just ask yourself these questions:
*When did you first hear about 21st dec 2012l?
*What do you know personally about this date which you haven't read in books or on the internet?
*How much do you trust the information which has been given concerning 2012?
*When did the 2012 date first appear in the publics conscious, and who did it come from?
*Do you think the mainstream media is trying to influence your 2012 viewpoint sub-consciously?

I first heard of the 2012 date about 2 years ago before which I had no knowledge of any significance attached to this time period or of the mayan calendar. From my understanding the first books started to appear containing 2012 prophecy's in the seventies, and you know how the phenomenon has gradually grown since then.

Anyway these are the details of the 1954 study which I believe is a test run for 2012, you make your own minds up:

'On 27th August 1954 Dorothy Martin received a warning fron the Guardians(ET's) of a wave of imminent catastrophes, which would include the disappearance of the east coast of the United States as well as Britain and France - under the sea on 21st December 1954. The Laugheads (Dr Charles and Lillian Laughead) took the lead in publicising these warnings, taking the story to the press.
At this stage the group of sociologists from the University of Minnesota decided to infiltrate the group in order to make a hands-on study of the behavior of such cults and, in particular, to see first-hand the reactions of true believers when the prophecies failed to materialise. As we know, the east coast of the United States did not find itself in a watery grave on 21st Dec 1954, and neither did Britain or France. The Minnesota study charted the gradual break-up of the group and its members' struggle to come to terms with the failure, and the resulting sense of loss and bereavement that such cruel disillusionment brings in its wake. Only one or two members admitted losing their faith in the Guardians, the majority coming up with a variety of more or less plausible rationalisations - or perhaps 'irrationalisations' - to explain the failure. Some said it had been a test of faith, or that the strength of their belief had actually averted the catastrophe. Quaintly, under the circumstances, the real tension in the group was caused by arguments about which of these excuses was the right one! The circle finally collapsed under the intense weight of public humiliation and ridicule.'

Like it or not 2012 has a cult following and much has been presented as fact with no real basis, alot of the time we are taking the word of a small group of people and now many more have jumped on this runaway train.
If you make enough people believe in a myth and they tell others it moves from myth to fact to public concsiousness.
The real question is why a small group of people are trying to convince us that the world is going to end.

hey Garfield. Over Dorothy martin, it wasn't the researchers pretending to be the guardians but a seperate agency who the researchers were aware of, and probably comissioned by. It all gets very complicated with the same names popping up. As it usually happens Im reading 3 books at the moment which all seem very related 'The Stargate Conspiracy, Men Who Stare at Goats and Psychic Warrior. They all relate to the more scretive side of goverment agencies and they all continually give off hand references to the NWO, its all very odd and confusing, in short its driving me crazy trying to connect the dots.
Ive just read an account from a russian doctor who specialized in subliminals (for example he would use them to help addicts lose their cravings) Anyway he was pretty skint after the cold war and the FBI offered to fly hin to America for some goverment work. When he got there the job they offered was to convince David Koresh of the Branch Davidians that he was recieveing messages from god. He turned the job down and flew back to Russia but we all know how the story ends. Apparently it was simply the FBI testing new techniques but after the cold war there was an absence of an enemy to test them on.
Anyway, I know Ive strayed completly off my original blog but where my mind strays I tend to follow.
I'll stop now.

Hi Scorpio and thanks for the caution about Drunvalo, but as I tried to make clear before, I was convinced about 2012 long before I had even heard of Drunvalo so if I ever heard convincing evidence against his authenticity I would be disappointed but it wouldn't change my view on 2012. In the end you have to make a judgement about authors or people in general. If I tried to research Drunvalo I would probably find 50 people who think he's wonderful and 50 people who trashed him so I would be no further forward. Its like when people on here were trashing you some months back. Until that moment I had respected them, but I decided they were wrong and stuck with my good opinion of you. As I don't know you '' in real life'' I could have made the wrong decision , but I followed my instincts and pitched my tent on your side of the river and its still there unless I see undeniable evidence that I made the wrong choice and I don't see that happening, lol.

David, I think we are mostly on common ground especially when you start to realise '' that 2012 isn't something you can opt in or out of''. I also agree about the PTB. As for this Dorothy Martin woman, Im feeling a bit thick here cos I don't get the point you're trying to make. Are you saying the researchers sent in their own people pretending to be her Guardians to see if she fell for that, or have I misunderstood?

Thanks for your reply garfield, and you scorpio. I have heard the mayans which claim that great changes in consciousness will occur because of the alignment and I have to admit that I used to think this also. Ive come to realise though that this is just an example of people shifting resposibility from themselves. It would be wonderfull if come 2012 humanity started thinking differently but for me this removes free will. I would like to think that if a wanted to advance myself as a person I could choose to do it, I wouldn't have to wait for a celestial alignment. This just moves the responsability to an unseen force.
It is obvious though that the PTB are using 2012 to further their own agenda, whatever that may be. But if what certain Mayan elders say is true, (that the change in vibration will alter our DNA and perception) the 2012 isn't something you can be distracted from, it isn't something you can opt in or out of. Anyway, like I said, a change like this would be nice, but I dont think it can be relied on.
This is a little more about what happened after the experiment in 1954, you'll see more similarities with 2012 prophecy:
'Dorothy Martin continued to recieve messages from the Guardians , who told her to change her name to Sister Thedra and travel to Lake Titicaca in Peru. Once there, she established - along with the Laugheads and the seminal contactee George Hunt Willianson - the Abbey of the Seven Rays. Fron this base Dorothy Martin begen to prophesize the coming of the 'Time of Awakening' when Atlantis would rise from the deep and a new Savior would rescue the righteous. In 1961 she returned to the United States, wher she continued to preach her message until her death in 1988.
What I didn't mention was that the researchers monitoring the group actually witnessed visits to dorothy from the guardians and were also aware that she recieved letters. They did not mention this in their research because the visits staged as part of the study. What we see is examples of remote and psychic influencing, which is a common yet secret technique used by less scrupuless agencies.

Seriously Garfield I would look into Drunvalo more, I wouldnt like to think you may lose all youve worked at and achieved just because of one error in judgement. but its your choice, so Ill zip it lol.

Hi Scorpio and thanks for your '' tuppence worth'' lol.
I don't believe Drunvalo is a fraud and don't believe he's working with the FBI or anyone else. Ive never heard that allegation before, but its obviously a slur on the reputation of a man who I believe is honourable and sincere. Ive never heard of this Dan Washburn guy, although Im guessing he's a journalist in the Michael Klein Ewin mode of embittered fringe writers. Im certainly not the only one who thinks that David Icke is an unreliable source on any topic, even though I find some of his ideas interesting.
In any event, Drunvalo is only one of many writers who have influenced me. Ive made my mind up on 2012 and for me there is no longer an IF. In other words, I no longer debate or speculate on IF 2012 will happen. I believe it will. I still enjoy debating the HOW and to a certain extent, the '' when'', which is why Im on this network.

Sorry to be a fly in the ointment, but Drunvalos a fraud, hes in co hoots with the FBI, and is classed as a shill and apparently he spreads disinformation, check out David Ickes forum on his website,http://www.davidicke.com admittedly David Ickes been ridiculed but hes definately not in with the FBI or CIA. http://www.v-j-enterprises.com/drunledg.html do a search for FBI. plus the info wasnt added by Icke it was a forum member and many agree with the claims.

http://www.danwinter.com/DM0492.html

Its pretty extreme stuff, and I remember Drunvalo being involved with the CIA from somewhere, so Imo he could well be a CIA shill trying to propagate more Newage nonsense...

the above are all links from David Ickes forum, which cannot be accessed by non members or so Ive just discovered.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

However the following is accessible to anyone Ill post link at foot of the text ,or perhaps its already there.

Zecharia Sitchin, Drunvalo Melchizedek, Elder Hunbatz Men, Joan Ocean and others are coming together for The Prophets Conference~Yucatan September 15-21 autumn equinox in and around Merida, Mexico.
Elder Hunbatz Men of the Maya has called together The Prophets Conference~Yucatan for this autumn equinox. The Mayan Calendar shows the importance of this particular time as incorporating the energies of universal harmony and the principles of evolution.

Many of us feel a great sense of urgency as time itself appears to be changing. We are experiencing a great deal more than some sort of millennial madness. We hear of changing electromagnetic fields and polar shifts. There is a growing experience of boundary dissolution, while at the same time, we have prophets coming forward from very ancient lineage, clearly telling us of cyclical completion. Increasing evidence is proving that we are recovering what has been lost: our knowledge and our identity.

Sitchin, for those who don't know him, is one of the "ancient astronaut" cohorts of Erich von Daniken and is himself a mentor of Graham Hancock, who derived his ideas as well from John Michell. This is not meant to tar Michell with the brush of von Daniken...unless, like me, one sees "Atlantis" and "Ancient Astronauts" as two sides of the same spurious coin.
Sitchin is so troubling to archaeologists that an entire web site is devoted to debunking his theories, one of which is crucial to an understanding of contemporary spurious Egyptology, namely, the hypothesis that Khufu (Cheops) did NOT build the Great Pyramid at Giza but that it was built millennia earlier by "ancient astronauts." In the light of 19th century discoveries of building blocks marked by work-crews with the name "Khufu" -- marks that indicate that Khufu was the guy who commissioned the pyramid -- Sitchin has proposed a sort of conspiracy theory, that those workmen's marks are FORGERIES perpetrated in Victorian times by someone with a vested interest in promoting the belief that Khufu built the pyramid.

Whether they follow Sitchin's "ancient astronaut" line or follow Edgar Cayce's Atlantean imperative into pyramid revisionism, writers whose theories depend upon a stupendously early date for the carving of the Sphinx at Giza or a non-funereal function for the Great Pyramid usually cite Sitchin as their authority.

And from there, as Graham Hancock so adroitly demonstrates, it is a short metaphysical hop, skip, and jump to Charles Hapgood and the spectre of .... Crustal Displacement.

And sure enough, the folks putting that Sitchin-headlined conference together tell us that they "hear of changing electromagnetic fields and polar shifts."

You see, when you buy the Atlantean ball of wax, you have to buy the WHOLE ball of wax as it as presently constituted. This is not the 1970s model so many of us knew and loved (or at least knew) under the aegis of John Michell -- the old Atlantean Ball of Wax with Secret Wisdom and the Fire Crystal and The Hall of Records and The Recovery of Lost Knowledge.

No, this is the New, Improved, Flaky-Crust Atlantean Ball of Wax, with Lemon-Freshened Polar Shifts! You get the same Secret Wisdom, Fire Crystal, Hall of Records, and Recovery of Lost Knowledge you've always had, but now, thanks to the magic of Elder Hunbatz Men of the Maya, that pokey-slow Aquarian Age you were waiting for has been given a speedy new processor for the Nineties. That's right! This time we're bringing you the Actual End of the World!!!

Now, somebody stop me before i prophesy again!

[Here follows Dan Washburn's commentary and my reply to him.]:

YOW! Double yow with sprinkles on top! Hey, at least i label my dreams as dreams. Is this guy a Blavatskyist? Those "contemporary masters" sure sound like a modern version of H.P.B.'s schtick!

> Are you aware that the little gray saucer people are stealing our
> sexual fluids in order to perpetuate their race?
Really? Wow! Mulder, this sounds like...an X-File. Seriously, though, i see a trend here -- this is another idea Drunvalo has borrowed. The constellation of images concerning an impotent or sterile alien race stealing our sexual fluids or using Earth's women as surrogate mothers or turning Earth's men into sperm donors for the perpetuation of their race appeared as plot premises in numerous science fiction stories in the 1950s. These story-lines, in various permutations, entered UFOlogy shortly thereafter. Barry Carroll might know who first proposed them as a serious UFOlogical concepts. Do they date back to that woman (sorry, i forget her name) whose car was stopped on a lonely road and so forth and so on? Were they first published by the UFOlogist Whitley Strieber? The history of the evolution of UFO beliefs would make for a good scholarly book.

> That dolphins are an advanced spiritual species that allow themselves
> to be captured by us in acts of missionary self-sacrifice?
Well, this borrowing of Drunvalo's i do know the source for. This idea surfaced shortly after John Lilly began publishing his dolphin intelligence research in the 1960s; Lilly himself may have promoted a prototype version of this story at one point, around the time he began taking psychedelics and doing sensory deprivation sessions in dolphin tanks. (Ah, John Lilly -- now there was a guy who REALLY went off the deep end. :-)) By the mid-1970s, the concept of dolphins "volunteering" to be captured in order to "work with" or "heal" human beings had a great deal of popular currency in fringe-science circles.

> That the earth power grid of sacred sites was finally completed in the
> late eighties?
This may be unique to Drunvalo; i've never heard of it before. I kinda like it. Not much else was happening in the late eighties, that's for sure.

> That the next leap in human evolution is now taking place in
> China where children with remarkable psychic powers are
> being born?
Back to Blavatsky, or more properly, to her disciple Annie Besant. Besant and her collaborator, the criminal pederast C.W. Leadbeater, ran the same story-line back in the early 1900s with the discovery of various psychic kids in India, including, but not limited to, the "coming World teacher" J. Krishnamurti.

For details on this scam, read "Madame Blavatsky's Baboon," a wonderful book exposing the "behind the curtain" shenanigins in late 19th and early 20th century theosophy and occultism in England, India, the United States, and Australia. What the book reveals is that there were several understudy Indian boys, including Krishnamurti's brother Nityananda Krishnamurti, waiting in the wings while the "coming World teacher" story went through its try-out stages. In addition to being promoted as psychic wonders and ascended masters and lord knows what-all, these boys, some of them more or less purchased from their parents, were utilized by Leadbeater as sex-victims.

Note that Drunvalo's mysterious Chinese kids and Besant's mysterious Indian kids have one thing in common -- at the time the story was promulgated, they came from an inaccessible region of the world. India is now too well travelled to serve as the locale for such a fabulous tale; China will still do, but only barely. Next? The psychic children of the Amazon rain forest, of course!

> We are the last generation that will need to
> reincarnate, this new humanity being beyond all that.
I have never heard this one before. It is millennialist, of course, but is it unique to Drunvalo, or does it derive from previous Theosophical thought?

> Did you know that all your problems stemmed from ancient Atlantis,
> where they screwed around with machinery based on the

> plight in that dimensional sub-basement, the physical plane?
Hmm. This is a variant of the old 1960s Atlantean Fire Crystal story-line, with a smattering of Scientology thrown in.

The Scientology angle concerns the fall from a non-corporeal civilization into the "MEST ( = messed = Matter Energy Space Time) Universe" through misunderstanding of cosmological principles.

Drunvalo's Atlantean angle substitutes sacred geometry for the nuclear physics of the Atlantean Fire Crystal story, which was floated by disciples of Edgar Cayce in the 1960s. This was a uniquely Cold War take on the Fall of Atlantis. In it, the Atlanteans were master alchemists and nuclear physicists who had learned the secrets of the transformation of matter into energy. To this end they powered the entire Island with three Fire Crystals in which some form of thermonuclear reaction took place. One of the Fire Crystals got out of hand and went wild, starting a chain reaction that sank the island. The parallel to the dangers of nuclear energy was clear.

In 1966 or '67 i actually met a man who lived in Sunnywale, California (then just beginning its dismal conversion from the orchards of Santa Clara Valley to the high-tech industries of Silicon Valley) who claimed to be building a working replica of the Atlantean Fire Crystal in his garage. I SAW the thing. It involved a lot of large-bore copper rods. He needed money to complete the project. It would be finished within two years. There was much mysterioso whispering and warning among his fellow Cayce-ites of the danger should he succeed. The next California earthquake might be HIS doing. Et cetera.

> In other words, we were drowning in drivel. Can you believe

Dan, i can believe ANYTHING when it comes to people's gullibility.

Oh, great!

> Just how dangerous is this? After Ron Hubbard and Rajnesh, not
> to mention Jonesville, I'm not in the mood to put up with psychotic
> pseudo-spirituality.
Well, i personally find it highly entertaining. I figure that the followers of these spiritual scamsters (with the exception of children, like Leadbeater's victims or the kids at Jonestown) are more or less self-selected as victims. I call them "self-basting turkeys," if you get my drift. I do not think the perpetrators are psychotic, for the most part, although a certain number of their disciples are.

Perhaps, as a fiction editor -- working in the highly improbable fictional world of comic books, no less -- i am more inclined than you to view these cult-beliefs as plot-lines and story-arcs written by the leaders and consumed as "entertainment" by their followers. I look for antecedents and variations on the themes. I applaud novelty and inventiveness in the scripting. I marvel at the credulity of the disciples.

I am not entirely removed from an emotional response to these stories -- but the emotions are editorial, not personal. I do acknowledge with regret that i lost several very close friends to Scientology... but i try to place this in perspective: I have also lost friends to the Vietnam War, to accidental drug overdoses, and to disease. I have even lost friends i thought i would never lose due to conflicting values and life-paths.

Is the friend who enters a UFO-based cult any less lost to me than the friend who tells me that his only goal is the pursuit of money and who has forsworn his family members and mine in pursuit of that goal? They have both bought into a story-line i cannot endorse. They have both de-selected themselves from my circle of care and concern. The plot-lines, the mythologies that sucked their brains out -- whether UFOlogy or capitalism -- are equally dangerous to them and humourously uninviting to me. In the end, each is as lost to me as the other.

> Hence to anyone who is involved with Drunvalo Melchizedek I say
> keep a firm grip on your moral principles, your sanity, and your
> wallet. Be prepared to bail out at a moment's notice.
Well, there, you see, we are not so distant in our opinions. Moral principles first...sanity second...money a distant third (Just kidding; i take a lot of chiding for being so "moral" and for caring so little about cash.)

> Further, I resent his co-opting the words Sacred Geometry and Merkaba.
Yeah. I can understand that. It's grotesque. It's creepy. It is bad.

> Sacred Geometry is sacred and shouldn't be associated with idiocy.
LOL. Spoken like a true moral philosopher.

> Merkabah Mysticism is the form that Jewish mysticism took for the
> thousand years before the rise of the Kabbalah around 1200 AD.
> The Merkabah is the throne-chariot of God revealed by Ezekiel.
> It is not a 50 foot aura emanating from the center of the body
> bearing a name made up of Egyptian words -- mer ka ba.
Whoa. Drunvalo claims that the Merkabah is EGYPTIAN?! How droll. That makes him one of the many hermeticists who try to de-Judaicize Jewish mysticism and give it Gentile roots.

I lump all these folks together under the loose title "British Israelites" -- a name i got from a 1920s group who promoted the spurious notion that the Brits were one of the "ten lost tribes" of Israel, and hence God's Chosen People. All "British Israelite" fantasies, no matter how elaborate, share one core idea: "The Jews are not the Jews."

Some claim that the Jews stole their religious ideas (e.g. the kabbalah, merkaba mysticism, etc.) from a Gentile race (e.g. Sumerians, Greeks, Egyptians, Celts, or Indo-Europeans).

Others claim that their OWN Gentile race (e.g. British, Celtic, African) is the "real" Jewish race, while the Semites as imposters.

In the end, no matter how you cut it, all these fantasies boil down to the one predictably anti-Semitic core-claim: "The Jews are not the Jews."

Sorry for going on so long this time...you opened a big box of ideas and they all came tumbling out.

http://www.luckymojo.com/atlanteanimperative.html

theres more but I think the above should give the general idea.

Also I think maybe David just got his words mixed up, easily done, and I also agree with what hes says everything about 2012 apart from the Mayan end date is speculation, hype, the results of persons unknowns over active imagination,( for now at least ) nothing can be proven about anything connected to 2012 apart from the Mayan Calendar, I thought that was an internationally known fact. if Im wrong then Im wrong. However we are all entitled to our opinions on 2012 and if they differ that doesnt make anyone wrong or right, because until 2012 has been and gone we wont know. Anyway thats my tuppence worth. Garfield Comment by Garfield on December 3, 2009 at 12:16pm
Okay David Ive read your response, but I still don't agree. I see no evidence of a ' cult following' and you haven't produced any. Of course many more people in recent times have become aware of the concept of 2012 as an '' end of the world'' date, but the explanation for that is straightforward, i e it was picked up by the mainstream media. Of course the PTB have and will attempt to manipulate that interest for their own ends, but that doesn't invalidate 2012 as a proposition.
Ive studied this for 14 years and its not true to say that the Long Count Calendar is the only real fact. There is much other evidence from ancient Mayan books, inscriptions, iconography, stone carvings, temple alignments and even pottery lending additional substance to the Calendar prediction.
You're also mixing up '' theory'' with ''fabrication''. Theory is an explanation for evidence which can't yet be absolutely proved in the scientific sense. For example evolution or climate change are theories. They are not fabrications. A fabrication implies putting together disparate '' facts'' to try to prove a proposition, which is something else entirely.
Timewave zero was originally an insight of Terence McKenna and has never been changed by him, only by others. He combined his knowledge of amazonian native practices, knowledge of hallucinogenic plants and the Chinese I Ching, to come up with his idea. He made it perfectly clear that when he came up with the date 2012, he had never even heard of the Mayan Calendar. He reached the same date from a different starting point entirely.
Its been a long time since I read Sitchen, but as best as I recall he never put a date on the return of Nibiru as precisely as a single year and if he's saying now it may not come for a 100 years its because he's frustrated with people jumping on his lifelong work to try to co opt him into their view. Also don't forget that NASA announced ''Planet X'' back around 1982 but then backtracked under pressure from the PTB.
Its true you can't predict a single solar flare but even modern science can predict periods of high sunspot activity and they've only been observing for around 80 years. The Mayans and their predecessors were observing for thousands of years and science accepts that solar activity has longer, more intense, cycles than just the shorter 11 year cycle.
I agree with you on pole shifts, but you miss out that they result from magnetic field changes and science tells us that the Earth's magnetic field is weakening at a never before seen rate in documented history
So I would say that leaves us with a lot more science and plausible theory than just the Long Count Calendar

Its not true that the Mayans say that the calendar just re sets. It depends which Mayans you listen to. Personally I don't go with the ones who seem to me to be '' getting in on the act'' by appearing in documentaries and Youtube videos. I prefer the evidence of the traditional Mayan calendar timekeepers, the shamans and holy men who have led their individual tribes for more than 600 years, passed down in the same families, since the end of the Maya Classic period. There are 144 of them and they have a High Council. The only non Mayan person authorised by them to communicate their view is Drunvalo Melchizedek. In his book, '' Serpent Of Light,'' he tells us what the Elder priests believe:
''The Serpent Of Light has now moved to a new geographical location, and with this movement, a new vibration is being emitted on Earth. This vibration is drastically different than what was emitted for the last 13,000 years. The cycle is not a circle, but a spiral. Each time it goes around, it does not return to the same place, but a new part of the spiral, just like the DNA molecule. And, like the DNA molecule, the codes are released in new patterns. From this comes a new way, a new world, and a new interpretation of the One Reality for humanity to behold and eventually live. By December 21st, 2012, the Precession of the Equinox will complete itself and the beginning of a new cycle of another 13000 years will be initiated. By this time the old cycle and the old male ways of controlling human life will be in disarray. By that time, the female will be in contol of leading human kind back into the Light. On February 18-19,2013, the Maya will perform the first ceremony of the new cycle, which will trigger the opening of all life everywhere to begin interchange with humanity in '' personal'' manner and humanity will begin a rapid healing of the remaining people on Earth. By that time, February 19th, 2013, Earth's human population is more than likely going to have been reduced dramatically, but those that are still here on Earth will truly begin to show love and caring as the new way of the world''

Ths is a remarkable and clear prediction. Please note 2 points in particular: One, the cycle is not a circle, its a spiral. So it DOES NOT simply re set. Secondly, it speaks of the '' REMAINING '' human population, indicating that most won't survive. From all of my reading, every indigenous group on the planet believes 2012 will have the outcome stated above. It talks of the '' DECAY'' of human society, so that's where the Elite agenda fits
You can choose to believe that nothing will happen, or the Elite will take advantage of our fascination with the predictions surrounding 2012 to enslave us or whatever, but there are forces greater than the Elite whose outcome cannot be stopped.
Me? Im with the Mayans.

love and peace, G

Wow, what a response. And thanks for all of your comments. I just wanted to address what you wrote Garfield to try and explain a little better why I posted this blog. I dont think that 2012 is a cult, but you cant argue that it has a cult following, and Im sure cults have come into existance on the back of the 2012 theories. I also dont think that all the theories surrounding 2012 are fabricated, just all of them except one.
The only true statement you can say about the 21/12/12 is that its the end of the Mayan long count. All other theories have latched themselves on to this one true fact to make them seem more plausible. I'll give examples:
*Timewave zero has been shown to have many flaws, has been changed many times, and I would say worked back from the 2012 date to make the numbers fit.
*Planet X is the creation of Stitchen who again has been shown to massage the facts to fit his theory. Also he claims that this planet is not due for another hundred years or so, so it has nothing to do with 2012.
*A solar flare, although it is a possibility would be impossible to predict with any real accuracy.
*A pole shift also could not be predicted with any real accuracy and scientific evidence shows its a gradual shift which takes millions of years.

So where does this leave us. Even existing Mayans who still use there calendar system say that when the long count ends it simply resets, just as we went from 99 to 00 (another set of failed predictions).
Common sense and the simple law of averages tell me that most of these theorys are fabrications. I dont think you can deny that the mainstream media is bombarding us with images of the end of the world. It isn't far fetched to me that the powers that be have an agenda concerning 2012, and it makes sense that they would test the plan before implamentaion witch is why we see the 21st dec date in the 1954 experiment (they had 365 days to choose from). You said yourself, the entire population thought the world was flat, even though ancient astronomy already established that it wasn't, and also that we weren't the centre of the Universe. It really isn't hard to pull the wool over people's eyes, especially when you have undeniable truth as your starting point.
I think that you can learn many a great thing from books, as long as you apply common sense. And if anything were to happen in 2012 it would be common sense to me that it was manmade and part of a plan because for me its the only theory that fits an exact date. I really do believe that all the great prophets of the past were not predicting the future, but were aware of this plan. The book by Manly P Hall called the secret destiny of america hits at this fact. But as with all info, view it with a skeptical eye.
Luckilly (unlike the big bang) most of us will be here in 2012 so all these theorys will come to the test. And just like the 1954 experiment the excuses and arguments will follow.
As for comparing 2012 theories with the highway code, the highway code is a set of instructions and Im yet to recieve my 2012 instruction manual ;)
2012 does have significance but it is manmade, and why this is remains to be seen.

Good blog post David and as with many it is thought provoking.

*When did you first hear about 21st dec 2012l?
Originally in 2000, then again about a year ago.
*What do you know personally about this date which you haven't read in books or on the internet?
Nothing.
*How much do you trust the information which has been given concerning 2012?
50/50 There is some truth in there somewhere, I believe we the population on earth need to figure out what is and what isnt true, I also feel everything is nothing more than speculation until such time as it happens, no one can fortell the future no one, so it is all speculation.
*When did the 2012 date first appear in the publics conscious, and who did it come from?
No idea to either.
*Do you think the mainstream media is trying to influence your 2012 viewpoint sub-consciously?
to a degree yes, someones promoting it somehow somewhere, as has been stated before it is keeping many of us occupied.

I would also say that regardless of what if anything does happen in 2012 all of whats going on with those interested in the 2012 phenomena it is doing something good it has and is causing many of us to examine more closely our roles in life, what we may do if faced with extinction and the probability of how we would manage our survival in the event the world as we know it does end anytime soon. In this I do agree it is creating a community, strangers are pooling their resources by way of creating survival camps and such. I also agree it has created a kind of cult following for the same reasons.

I also agree the PTB are apparently (or it would appear that way) planning or preparing for something, what though we will find out in time Im sure.

Whilst 2012 may come and go uneventfully, it has to be said, all of the talk and information available to us through the internet is having a somewhat positive effect upon many, we are now examining ourselves in many areas, our spirituality, our religious beliefs and our overall place in the world, we had not taken much notice of before, but now many are sitting up and taking notice, so no matter what, I think there will be changes, if only slow, because we humans arent going to settle for being how we once were anymore, we arent prepared to be sheep, we`re awakening to our true purpose, and we wont want to go backwards.
We are also finding out whats been hidden from us for centuries so we are going to come into our own power, and perhaps just perhaps thats what its all about.

As for the end of the world scenarios I think thats something we`ve had ingrained into our subconscious because we are taught that nothing is permanent, not us or anything is permanent therefore we all await the time the world will end because of our being aware of us only being here temporarily.

Not a 2012 Disaster: Large Hadron Collider

For all I know it is just spin, but the news this week is that the LHC couldn’t possibly cause a doomsday in 2012 – it will be shut down for repairs. In September 2008, just 9 days after physicists first circulated protons through the 27-kilometer-long subterranean accelerator, the LHC suffered a catastrophic failure when one of [...] Related posts:

Protecting Earth: Governments Finally Getting Serious

The timing could be better, because Dec 2012 is only 2.5 years away, but better late than never! Last month, Representative Dana Rohrabacher (R – CA) introduced the new bill before Congress, H.R. 5587, titled: “To establish a United States Commission on Planetary Defense and for other purposes.” The commission will investigate the role of the United [...] Related posts:

Siberia: A New, Recent Hominin Added to the Mix

For a very long time, homo sapiens were the only human species that were thought to have existed in the last tens of thousands of years. Recently we have witnessed the addition of two species, the Neandertals (latest research says that everyone apart from Africans have some Neandertal DNA), and the Hobbits (who we do [...] Related posts:

Mel Gibson Update

[that Mel Gibson has any special knowledge regarding 2012 is pure speculation on my part, as an example of how a famous person, in the know, might seem to act as 2012 approaches] Well, well – back in February I speculated that perhaps Mel Gibson – the only person who has ever made a movie about [...] Related posts:

NASA Discovers 25,000 New Asteroids

And as an example of how infrequent it is for an asteroid to crash into our planet, not one of the 25,000 is aimed for Earth. It’s a pretty impressive haul for WISE (Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer), finding that number since last December, and also discovering 15 new comets. The telescope is up in space, just [...] Related posts:
